A graduate of Middle East Technical University in Ankara, Turkey, Aliye Çelik received Master of Fine Arts in Architecture degree as the first woman architect from Princeton University in 1970. She earned a doctoral degree from Istanbul Technical University in 1976.

Aliye Çelik had a long and successful career at the United Nations. She was the Chief of Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) at the United Nations when she retired in 2005. She has been still active in her architectural career. Dr. Çelik established “the Consortium for Sustainable Urbanization” with her colleagues.

With more than 50 years of experience, Dr. Çelik has become an advocate for educating and promoting women leaders in their fields, particularly in architecture.
