AWARDS WINNING TURKISH-AMERICAN TELEVISION (TATV) CELEBRATES ITS FIFTEENTH ANNIVERSARY

Fairfax, VA September 26, 2020 – The award winning Turkish-American Television (TATV) has been carrying out its mission of delivering educational, engaging, and entertaining programs on art, culture, lifestyles, music, dance, health, wellbeing, science, and technology since 2005.

The Turkish-American Hour show is presented in English and is the longest-running Turkish TV program in the U.S. The latest program videos are available on our social media sites and on-demand at http://turkishamericantv.org.

In 2007 Turkish-American Television received the Community Service award from the American-Turkish Association of Washington, DC (ATA-DC) and was also awarded the Community Access Magic (CAM) Awards in the International Category from Prince George’s County Community TV (PGCTV) in 2007 and 2008. The Washington D.C. chapter of the Middle-East Technical University (METU) Alumni Association has named TATV the winner of its annual Turkish-American Community Service Award and Fairfax Public Access (FPA) presented “Top Producer of the Quarter” Award in 2011. Most recently, TATV received the “Excellence in Media” award at the 32. Annual National Turkish American Convention, organized by The Assembly of Turkish American Associations (ATAA) in 2012.

Two Coasts, Two Festivals:  Washington, D.C. and Monterey, CA

The 10th Turkish Festival in Washington, DC

The Turkish Festival in Washington, DC celebrated its 10th year on Sunday September 30, 2012 at Freedom Plaza! This festival, held every year in the beginning of the Autumn season, showcases the many facets of Turkey including: culture, history, entertainment, food, fashion, and much more. Several tents are set up along Freedom Plaza where visitors may learn more about Turkey; purchase jewelry, clothing, household goods, and food; and meet with organizations that serve to provide knowledge of the Turkish culture.

Washington DC Turkish Folk Dance Children’s Troupe

The festival is filled with many activities as well, including a Kid’s Tent, Turkish coffee fortune readings, and a wonderful show of folkloric dancing and music from all areas of Turkey. The show consisted of several different dances from Turkic Lands performed by Kardelen Turkish Dance Ensemble, Washington DC Turkish Folk Dance Children’s Troupe, Yeditepe University Folk Dance Club (YUFOLK), Nomad Dancers, and Silk Road Dance Company. The music was also a treat for the ears thanks to the stylings of Ishtar Band, Barrio Andalusi, and the Amir Vahab Ensemble.

The turnout for the festival this year was outstanding. People of all nationalities and all walks of life came together to enjoy a day of Turkish culture. The diversity that the festival drew to the streets of Washington, DC was evident. It was a great success and we hope to see everyone again next year!

The 15th annual California Turkish Festival was held in Monterey, CA on August 25-26 2012. The event had a multitude of musical and cultural events, as well as great Turkish food. Custom House Plaza hosted several tents where visitors could learn about Turkey, purchase jewelery, arts, clothing and food.

The festival was full of many activities like Turkish coffee and fortune reading, Kids tents, folkloric dances and music. Performers like Group Karmasik, Group Hadi Hadi, Horon Turkish Folk Ensemble, Yöre Folk Ensemble, Whirling Dervishes – Semazen Group, Imamyar Hasanov – The Kamancha of Azerbaijan and Davul – Zurna/Clarinet by George & Salih created a multicultural festival atmosphere for the visitors.
